In The Woods

by mandaceehb

The wind whistles a sad tune

Through the gaps of the interlocking branches

Tall grasses sway and animals scuttle away

Leaving behind silence louder than a thousand avalanches

Sparrows head west

Soaring toward the setting sun

In search of a better day

After them I may run

But never will I soar free

Descending ball of fire

Invites the darkness to come and play

And goes away

Leaving us with this unfamiliar guest

Putting our minds at constant unease

But you whisper to me

That it is okay

It harms us not to believe

That beneath this canopy of stars

We are safe
