we should never forget that

by our very existence we have deformed the shapes of our parents’ existences

merged the courses of their lives with the sound of our selfish cries

unintentionally extended their lives to the facets of childhood and innocence

they thought they would never again see

they built their own lives from the ground only to demolish the bricks

to grow up all over again as we do

watch over us from seed to tree

they are the warm embrace of soil and living water that sustains in every stage

they gave us a plot of fertile land to call home

but by us the crops will wither

before the trees flower with joy
