We didn’t quite draw near, but I was glad to catch a glimpse of Mount Fuji from the train!
With their love
They built a bridge of pain and tears
With their loss
They destroyed a bridge with pain and fears
Your empty threats hang in the air
And I may have used to be
But I’m not scared anymore
I’ve tested time with a knife
Been wounded, come back to life
You can’t scare me with words anymore
Not when my heart has been hardened to the core
In this season of lights and giving
Pretty white frocks in grand churches
Candles and caroling choirs
Singing sweet tales of God’s grace
Christmas trees and gifts beneath
Moments of forgiveness, sins redeemed
Hearty laughter of reunited families
In the soft halo of a roaring fire
Isolated from the snowy cold
Warmth granted to hearts’ desire
We were in Kyoto, which was one of the loveliest places to me. One of the attractions there is the Monkey Park Iwatayama, located high up a hill. So we trekked upwards for a long time, where beautiful trees with red and yellow leaves shaded our heads, and the view was truly a sight to behold. At least, that was what I thought before I saw the view from the top of the hill.
The peak provided the best view of the city, with buildings extending into mountains in the distance. It looked quite like paradise to me, and the monkeys had the best view all the time. They could even appreciate a lovely view of mountains on the other side when they were bathing. Lucky things.
This was the day we made a “wasted” trip all the way uphill, but fortunately it wasn’t all wasted, not when there was a pretty view. The cable cars were closed, but we could see the city where we stood. It wasn’t even late, perhaps 4 to 5 o’clock, but the sky was darkening and city was coming aglow.
Smears of blood on the wall
Wounds of the estranged, their voices call
The pain is overwhelming
I feel my heart slow
The hopeless road ahead
To fate I bestow
With his eyes that shined like stars
And hers hollow with no soul
They were never meant to be
Instead destined to fall
Head over heels
Into the depths of no return
Her eyes were devoid of life
But inside her
The stars glowed bright
His eyes were fiery and alive
But inside him
The ashes died
The innocence of a young child
Blind belief and unwavering trust
Is something we cannot replicate
Once we become old enough
For young fragility to be broken by this cruel world
So we look back
On something so beautiful we once had
But never again can possess
